12th Lock, Grand Canal
The Grand Canal Depot, at Lucan Road Bridge (12th Lock) is about seven miles from Dublin City. This canal section opened in 1779. Alongside the Lock is Shackleton's Mill.

Nangor Road Houses
Clondalkin's Police Station for the County Constabulary (est. 1822) was based here. The force was renamed the Irish Constabulary in 1836 and the 'Royal' epithet was granted in 1867

Grange Castle
The 15th Century Grange Castle is a Hall House, with 1st Floor Grand Hall over a defended ground floor. This was modelled on 13th Century Norman Tower Houses. Grange Caastle was occupied until the 1970's

Tully's Fort
In 1494 the Deputy Lieutenant of Ireland, Sir Edward Poynings, set about defending Dublin agains the Wild Irish by creating a ring of fortifications. Tully's Fort was part of the arrangement, known as the Pale.

The Mill Pond
For 200 years Clondalkin was noted for it's paper mills on this site. They were known as the Sally Park Mills in 1837. Operating under various names they survived until 1986 when they finally closed.

Cowan's Shop
The Cowan Family owned the Mayfair Dance Hall which operated from 1955 to 1975 and was the social hub for a large area. Cowan's Hardware and Drapery Store opened in 1947. It closed in 2003.

The Tower & St. John's
This well preserved Round Tower is part of a 7th Century monastic settlement. St. John's Church was built in 1790 to replace a 12th century building. THe cottage to the left of the Tower was demolished in the 1980's

Cappaghmore House
Cappaghmore House was built about 1800 as a single storey cottage for the Whiton family who farmed the land for several generations. Dermot Ryan, Late RC Archbishop of Dublin, spent his childhood here.

Mount St. Joseph's
This Monastery was opened in 1813 by The Brothers of the Third Order as a Free & Poor School with 200 boys on it's role. During WW 2 it was used as an army H.Q. After a fire, Mt. St. Joseph's was demolished in 1988.

Dublin - Cork Express
Ireland's biggest steam locomotives were the 6-6-0 Bredin Class B1s's, Built in 1939. They were used to haul the 'Enterprise' Express between Dublin and Cork. Here we see No. 800 Maeve passing through Clondalkin Station.

A 12th Century Church, it was united with Clondalkin Parish by Master Osbertus in 1186.
